The Everything Bee Vacuum Gen 2 Kit
This Gen 2 combination includes everything you need to get started. Included (one of each): Nozzle, 6 foot hose, 7 gallon Containment bucket with basket Vacuum head, 12v 20a-hr Lithium Ion Battery (inside head), and Battery Charger. It ships full assembled and ready to go.
To assemble, open the gate valve & insert the hose. Extend the retractable remote, and put the shoulder straps with cross strap on. Clip the remote on a shoulder strap, and you are ready to go in seconds!
Removing the bees is just as fast. Start with a bottom board (closed entrance). Put the hive body with the brood frames on top of that. Then put an empty super above that (no frames). There is one piece you need to make. Take a piece of plywood as a cover cut the size of your boxes (8 or 10 frames). Put the bucket upside down (without vacuum head) on the plywood and draw a circle. Cut out that circle with a jigsaw, just big enough for the bucket to set in it but not big enough for it to fall in. Put that on top of the empty super and strap it all together. After you've finished vacuuming the bees, unscrew the vacuum head and loosen the basket. Flip the bucket over the hole, the basket falls into the empty super and all the bees fall on top of it. Give the bucket a few thumps, and 99.9% of the bees are in the box. Simply take off the bucket and slide a screen cover in place. You can retrieve the basket the next day. And if you need to keep going, just drop another basket in the bucket, screw the vacuum head in place, and get back to work.
If you want to leave the bees in the vacuum for a while, simply remove the hose & close the vented gate valve. You can leave the vacuum running in slow speed, just enough air to keep the bees cool.
The vacuum includes the retractable speed control knob and everything shown in the pictures.
There are several advantages with the Gen 2 design. Most beekeepers who do removals professionally prefer it. There are less parts to it. Dumping the bees takes only seconds. You can set the bucket upright and not worry about it rolling. The shoulder straps are wider and padded, just like a backpack. It has the gate valve to lock in the bees when you remove the hose (5 seconds vs 40 seconds to remove the hose and adapter before installing the vented cap. You can carry multiple baskets in little space compared to extra comtainment buckets like Gen 1.
